In our beginners’ course you will learn the basics of Tango Argentino clearly and comprehensibly right from the start.
We will guide you step by step through the most important elements of tango: connection, musicality, orientation in a couple and first movement sequences. It’s not about fast figures, but about getting a good feeling for dancing together.
Tango begins with walking to the music. From this simple foundation, embrace, connection and a shared flow of movement emerge.
What you’ll learn:
- Embrace and connection in a couple
- Leading and following with clarity and attention
- Walk, cradle, base, ocho and a small turn
- First orientation in the milonga, the social tango evening
- How to move safely and relaxed on the dance floor
In tango there are leading and following roles. At Intango, both roles are open to all genders. You can lead, follow or try both – regardless of whether you come alone or as a couple.
The beginner level consists of 6 sessions. You can join the class up through the second session.

Enjoy every milonga and vals tanda.
Many of our students have expressed a desire for a class dedicated entirely to these two rhythms. And indeed, it’s often noticeable: when dancing to a vals, a rhythmic milonga, or a beautiful non-tango piece, many dancers appear particularly relaxed, free, and playful—they seem to move almost naturally to this music. It is precisely this feeling that we want to focus on and develop further here.
Vals has a special way of carrying you along: The melody pulls and lifts you, and you often feel particularly close to the music. But this feeling doesn’t always translate into the movement itself. It can still seem fast or restless, rather than following the flow of the music. Milonga demands something different: It invites you to play with the rhythm, rather than simply moving within it.
Different starting points, the same goal: This course is all about bridging that gap—step by step, week by week, and through individual sequences.
Milonga and vals have a way of bringing everyone back to a common starting point—regardless of what level you usually dance at.
That’s why we’re opening this course to everyone at Level 2 and above.

Before you read on—take a moment to check in with yourself. Here are a few honest questions. You don’t have to answer them out loud.
- Do the steps you learned in class sometimes slip your mind as soon as you start dancing with someone new?
- Does the dance floor feel different—harder to read—once you’re no longer in the classroom?
- Do certain moves, like your Boleo, still feel stiff even though you know the steps?
- When you watch yourself dance, does your dance seem faster or more erratic than it feels?
Forget the moves. Rediscover dance.
Maybe you’ve read our blog post about the three types of dancers: stage dancers, social dancers, and those we’ve called “freaks”—people who don’t just want to dance tango, but want to study it. The idea behind it is actually quite simple: If you want to become really good at something, you have to dedicate yourself to it fully.
You know the move—but does it work with someone else, to different music, and on a crowded dance floor?
This series is designed specifically for this type of learning—and to address a gap that many of us are all too familiar with. You’ve learned a beautiful sequence, but on the dance floor—with a different dance partner, under different spatial conditions, and to different music—it doesn’t work the way it did in class. That’s not because of a lack of practice. It happens when the focus is exclusively on dance figures, while the dance floor demands something else: awareness of your own body, your dance partner(s), the music, and the space around you.
This is exactly where most courses end—and this is where Emile begins.
We originally launched this project as part of our weekly program. Since Emile travels from Oldenburg and a weekly schedule isn’t feasible, we’ve since dedicated select weekends to him—this gives the series the space and continuity it deserves.
The Evolving History of Tango
With four decades of tango experience, Emile is a living piece of tango history—still moving, still evolving. He was among the privileged few who had the opportunity to work directly with legends of the Golden Age—dancers such as Todaro, whose ideas were brimming with originality, as well as Pepito and Tete. Alongside a generation of dancers who have played a decisive role in shaping today’s tango, Emile has never stopped exploring and questioning the dance, nor has he stopped developing his own unique understanding of it. It has been a remarkable journey.
What Emile finds particularly important here is this: It’s not the individual movements that make you truly irresistible as a dancer at the milonga. It’s the variety—the ability to dance with rich combinations, strong musicality, and dynamic expressiveness. These are the dancers who dance with the music, not just to its beat. These are the dancers who capture everyone’s attention.
Under Emile’s guidance, you’ll journey through the past, present, and future of tango over these seven weekends: where it comes from, where it stands today, and how your own dancing can continue to evolve. We’ll work across styles and adapt elements to different dance partners, because no two people move the same way. Figures are tools. Good dancing depends on what you do with them—and that’s exactly what this series focuses on.
We’ve deliberately kept the price simple and affordable—about half of what a workshop series like this would normally cost—because we don’t want your budget to be a barrier to your growth.

Powerful, flowing movements are the key to an expressive tango.
This weekly training gives you the physical foundation to dance with ease, balance and presence.
Tango-specific advantages:
- Building core strength for stability in the embrace
- Improve posture and balance for smoother turns and steps
- Development of suppleness and control for elegant movements
- Joint-friendly, knee-friendly training for lasting strength
The training is inspired by Pilates and functional training – always with a focus on tango movements. Especially helpful for followers, but open to all dancers.
In contrast to our Followers in Focus workshops, which deepen concrete tango techniques (such as ochos or footwork), this training strengthens body awareness and the physical basis to further develop your dancing in milonguero/nuevo styles and in SMART tango.
This is where tango technique meets body training – for more skill, resilience, self-confidence and expressiveness on the dance floor.
